Quest 2020Urgent repairs to save St Thomas's

We have essential and urgent repairs to fund – before it is too late!

Doom Painting

A uniquely valuable survivor from the 15th century this work has been described as the most complete example in England.

It has now been repaired and preserved.
The painting substrate has been stabilised and re-fixed to the wall. The plaster was lifting and in danger of falling off – and taking the painting with it!

You can see the cracks that were showing the damage. These have now been filled in.

The Clerestory

A wonderful example of English
Perpendicular church architecture the
stone had deteriorated, become porous and was crumbling away.

Without urgent attention it would have become a safety hazard due to falling stonework – and could even collapse.

This urgent repair work has now been done, thanks to the money raised in the Quest 2020 campaign.

The Floor

The wood block flooring has loosened
and become a Health and Safety hazard and is badly worn, stained and unstable.

Also the stone slabs in other areas have become uneven and are a hazard to unwary visitors.

Help us save the Church of Angels!
