If you would like to know more about any of the following aspects of Church life or to join one of these groups, please contact the Parish Office by email or telephone on 01722 322 537 for more information. click on links below for more information In the last two years several groups have developed in response to requests from members of the congregation for more opportunities to deepen our faith and to get to know each other better. Comments from those attending have been very positive and appreciative. If you would like to join in any of the activities please contact the person named. All of the groups would welcome new participants. Click here to view the Adult Education Programme 2011 The Faith GroupMeets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.30 and finishes promptly at 9.00. The venue is 4 Victoria Road, Salisbury. It is a very informal group and meetings are semi-social starting with a glass of wine and a 'round-robin' of our day or our week so far. In terms of content, the group started with the Churches Together Faith Making Sense course, exploring the references to senses in scripture and discussing these within the context of our own lives. The second 'course' is based on 'The Meaning is in the Waiting' an Advent reflection by Paula Gooder. The balance between Bible study and discussion is fairly equal, and those who want to take it in turns to lead. We would welcome newcomers to join the group to add to the discussions and shared fellowship. Our aim is for a friendly, warm and welcoming group who simply enjoy some time out to help develop understanding and spirituality in a relaxed home setting. Our meetings in 2011 start on Tuesday 11th January, Tuesday 8th February and Tuesday 8th March, (as this latter date is shrove Tuesday we may decide to have some pancakes!) – why not come along and join us at any of these meetings and join in our discussion and tell us what you would like to talk about in order to share our faith?! Call Jane Miller on 01722 322791. The Sharing and Reflection GroupIs a monthly home-group meeting to share food together and tell our stories, and to talk about our spiritual lives in a safe, supportive environment. New members are welcome. If you are interested in joining us or finding out more contact Fiona Hulbert (tel: 01722 328927) The Thursday GroupLooks at readings appointed for the Sunday Parish Communion following the meeting. Between six to eight people meet every Thursday at 10.30am in St Michael's Room. Members of the group read out the Old Testament, Epistle and Gospel verses concerned and then we discuss, look at notes in our Bibles and/or commentaries and discuss what we think is the meaning, why the particular pieces have been selected and what the preacher might say about them. We have found that these discussion times are extremely valuable so that concentration on the next Sunday is much easier both during the readings themselves and when the sermon is taking place. The facilitator for the group meetings is Sally Vaughan (tel: 01722 337865) but she is hoping that there will be other volunteers to lead if she is unable to be present. Everyone is welcome so please just turn up on a Thursday morning or ring with questions - it would be very good to see some new faces alongside those who have been before. The Bible Study Group
Monday evening has become a fixed point in the life of the parish: Bible study and discussion. 2011 has seen a deepening and prayerful commitment to the reading and discussion of Scripture. We meet in St Thomas's House from 7.30 - 9 pm. For Lent we are using the topic of 'And it was good ...' Please see the course leaflet here. The Marriotts’ Bible Study GroupThis Bible Study Group meets weekly at the Marriotts. Having studied St Mark's Gospel and the Letter to the Hebrews, we continued with Henri Nouwen's book The Return of the Prodigal Son. We will meet again this autumn each Monday afternoon to study the General letters starting with James. We meet from 5.30pm to 7.00pm on Monday evenings. There are 8 of us at present but if anyone else would like to join us, they would be most welcome. For further information, please call Judith and Martin Marriott (tel: 01722 330271) For Lent we are using the topic of 'Handing on the Torch: sacred words for a secular world' Please see the course leaflet here. St Thomas's Book GroupMeet on the second Friday of the month at 11 30 at 3 Harcourt Manor in Mill Road. New members are most welcome, tel: 01722 322212.
