Christmas Tree Festival Registration 2019

St Thomas’s annual Christmas Tree Festival will take place from 3rd - 8th of December. It is a community event in which schools, play groups, businesses and individuals take the opportunity to convey the message of Christmas while displaying the essence of their work. The variety of imaginative and artistic entries is enjoyed not only by local people but by many who travel long distances. The time and talents of many members of the congregation make the whole event possible, overseen by a small organising committee. Admission is free but donations are welcome as visitors leave.

Entering a tree or nativity scene in 2019

It is free to enter a tree or nativity scene. Entries are made by scrolling down to the link to the entry form at the bottom of this page.   It is very important to know the title of your entry and to have up to 20 words ready to describe it for completion of the entry form.  These words will be used for the programme.  The entry form is now available until Saturday 2nd November 2019 at midnight when entries will close. If all the available places are taken before 2nd November the entry form will be taken off line sooner. Some hard copy entry forms are available at the back of the church for those who prefer to enter that way.

Benefiting Charities

The charities for 2019 are Family Counselling Trust a registered mental health charity providing key early intervention counselling support to children and young people (up to age 18) and their families, and Care Home Volunteers which recruits, trains and supports volunteers in care homes providing joy, friendship and support to residents. Thanks to the generosity of visitors making donations and the profits from the festival café, the church will donate equal sums to these charities. The church will itself benefit from an equal sum towards maintenance and upkeep.

As always there is a full programme of music throughout the week performed by individuals and groups of musicians as well as singing groups, choirs, and school choirs from both primary and secondary schools. The music programme is as much a part of the Festival as the artistic exhibits and is much enjoyed.

Christmas Workshops

We are delighted to be able to offer four practical workshops on making Christmas decorations and arrangements for the festive table and wreaths for your doors. These will be held in St Thomas’s House, next to the church, on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December in the afternoon and on Monday 9th December, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. If you would like to book a place on one of these workshops please contact the organiser, Jerry Wilde, on This email address is being protected from spambots. The church café provides delicious home-cooked food throughout the week which is very popular and most welcome.

The Rector and congregation of St Thomas’s look forward to welcoming all exhibitors, musicians, singers and visitors to the 2019 Festival.

If you have any questions about the Festival or about making an entry please contact the Organisers, John Cox and Di Emsley who can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
