Christmas Tree Festival 2017

About 13,000 visitors enjoyed the more than 100 Christmas trees and nativity scenes at St Thomas's 2017 Christmas Tree Festival, which ran from 5th to 10th December.

The trees and scenes were entered by charities, schools, organisations and individuals in the Salisbury area, and we thank them all for the inspiration, time, imagination, skills and humour which that they devoted to create the entries. We also thank the many volunteers who served as stewards, kitchen assistants providing non-stop and excellent refreshments throughout the Festival and in other roles to ensure a smooth-running and joyful experience for everyone, with special thanks to the two organisers, John Cox and Diane Emsley.

We also thank the sponsors of the Festival for their financial help in mounting such an event:

  • Allum & Sidaway
  • Dinghams Cookshops
  • Irwin Mitchell LLP
  • Jordans
  • Neal’s Yard Remedies
  • OSO Boutique
  • Rolys Fudge Pantry
  • H R Tribbeck
  • Whites
The Festival was not just a visual feast but also a musical one, with 54 different soloists and local musical groups performing throughout the six days of the event, and we're very grateful for the hard work they put into preparing, rehearsing and performing for our guests.
Here are some comments taken from our visitors' book about the Festival:-
"Absolutely beautiful and moving"
"Wonderful!"
"Such a great way to start the Christmas season"
"Super and magical!"
"Stunning – a true Christmas gem"
"A little piece of Heaven on Earth. God Bless You All."
"A very moving experience"
"Just about the nicest church I know"

Three charities will be presented with cheques for the donations given by Festival visitors at our 'Carols for Busy People' service at 1.10pm on 19 December. This year's three charities are:

  • Salisbury Trust for the Homeless
  • Wilton Riding for the Disabled Association
  • St Thomas's Church
